NYT Op-Ed – Heaven for the Godless?

Well, our work is cut out for us, isn’t it? Besides people like Mr. Blow conjuring straw men regarding what makes for a Christian and what does not (I’m appalled and distressed that 39% think the Bible is the “literal word of God”–which version would that be? The ‘St James Bible,’ perhaps?????? And then interpreted by whom? Benny Hinn or Rod Parsley perhaps? How ’bout Joel O? Or maybe Jack Spong or VG Robinson… Oh, wait: that group probably means that each of them can interpret it to mean what they want it to mean!)… well, as I said, our work is cut out for us!

  1. Robert Easter Says:

It all depends on what your meaning of is is, David!

Literally true? In its entirety/original manuscripts/all that it intends? I think that’s a question whose answer depends so much on the context we can say yes or no to the same question and be entirely honest both times. Is Christ our Creator, Redeemer, Healer, coming King and Judge? Absolutely. Do I think He sits as a man on a decorated chair in an upper story realm? Not really, but if that’s the closest approximation we have available, then I’m sure there is material there for us to learn from………

    Must go. Daughter calling!
